Sefer Shnei Luchos Habris by Rabbeinu HaShelah HaKadosh, bound with Sefer vavei HaAmudim, which is a kind of foreword to the Shelah by his son Rabbi Shabtai Horowitz.
Furth and Nuremberg, [1762-1764]. At the press of Henech ben Leib Buchbinder
A nice & early edition, among the earliest printings of this holy sefer. It includes approbations from leading rabbis of the time, such as Rabbi Nataniel Weil, the Av Beit Din of Karlsruhe and author of Korban Netanel on the commentary of the Rosh, as well as Rabbi Yehuda Amrich, Av Beit Din of Schnaittach.
Stamps: "Petachiah Kraus, son of the revered and saintly Rabbi Shmuel of blessed memory, Av Beit Din of Vagas and its surrounding districts, now residing in S.A.Uhely."
Rabbi Petachiah Kraus was born as the youngest son to his father, the holy and revered Rabbi Shmuel Krois, Av Beit Din of Kovácsvágás around 1868. He was a disciple of Rabbi Avraham Yehuda HaCohen Schwartz, the author of Kol Aryeh, in Mad.
He was appointed as rabbi in Mikóháza and, after his father’s passing, succeeded him as the rabbi of the Kovácsvágás community. A newspaper announcement about his coronation as rabbi recounts that crowds and prominent members from across the district, even from Alsómihályi, Uhely, and Sarospatak, came to partake in the great celebration.
From 1915 he resided in the city of Uhely, where he passed away at the age of 66.
On his tombstone, the following was inscribed:
"The revered and pious scholar, the righteous and pure Rabbi Petachiah, son of the revered and saintly elder, a man full of compassion and a miracle worker, sanctified by all, Rabbi Shmuel of blessed memory, Av Beit Din of Vagas, may his memory be a blessing. He succeeded his father 1900 and established his tent of Torah in Uhely in 1915, and was summoned to the heavenly abode at the age of 66 on the first day of the intermediate days of Passover, 1934."
