Rebbi Yaakov Tzvi Yalesh, Av Beit Din of Dynów, author of Maleh HaRoim (1778–1825) "Who does not know the greatness and holiness of the esteemed and holy author, of blessed memory, whose righteousness, sharpness, and holiness are renowned throughout the world?" (Rebbi Chaim of Sanz in his approbation to Chinuch Beit Yehuda).
A towering Gaon in both the revealed and hidden aspects of Torah, he was a disciple of the founding figures of Chassidut and one of the great Torah authors.
He served as the rabbi of Dynów, Głogów, and Husaków, but spent most of his life in Przemyśl. In Chassidut, he was primarily a disciple of the Chozeh of Lublin and also learned from the Maggid of Kozhnitz and Rebbi Menachem Mendel of Rimanov. In his youth, he studied Torah under the great Yismach Moshe.
In his early years, he had a close friendship with the author of Yeshuot Yaakov, who wrote in his approbation to Maleh HaRoim: "My friend from youth, I have loved him with eternal love." He also studied Torah together with the holy Gaon, author of Bnei Yissaschar, who reminisced in his approbation to the sefer:
"I remember the days of old when we would engage together in learning Torah, with a group of scholars devoted to resolving Halachic debates, and this righteous man was wise in all his ways, and the Lord was with him, for the Halacha always followed his opinion."
His vast spiritual legacy spans all areas of Torah. Some of his works include Maleh HaRoim, Kohelet Yaakov, Emet L’Yaakov, Beit Vaad L’Chachamim, Parashat Derachim Zuta, Chinuch Beit Yehuda, and more. He passed away on the 9th of Nissan, 1825.
