An Elegant Silver Dutch Grogger, made in the Netherlands Circa1960-1970.
Groggers were generally used for making noise on Purim for various reasons; it’s not exactly toys but still a significant religious item used on the holiday. Jewish people make groggers for children and adults alike and this particular one was made for one special individual as it was made entirely of silver.
The handle is made elaborately with a ringed ball with foliate chasing at the base of the handle applied to the two-part knobbed baluster handle seen on more prestigious pieces of Judaica.
A running lion is applied to a flag-shaped freely rotating border, its back foot is attached to a flat slat that fits into the teeth of the cog that is affixed to the handle, kept in place with the dome attached at the top.
Hallmarked on the bottom of the upper flag-shaped freely rotating border.
