The Lubavitcher Rebbe was accustomed to giving out coins to his Chassidim either on his way to Daven Shacharit at 770, on the way to the Mikveh in the morning, after the Shacharit Prayers when the Rebbe would be on his way to visit the Ohel.


There would be other occasions where the Rebbe would give out coins for charity such as, rallies that the were held for children, for older people , for Shluchim and other various Lubavitch organizational rallies which would be held at 770.

These rallies would be attended by the Lubavitcher Rebbe where he would give sermons and inspiration as well as give out coins to be placed into Tzedakah.

These coins was received from the Lubavitcher Rebbe on one of these occasions, as R’ Chaim Tzvi Konikov writes on the paper he folded the coins into:

"Received from the Holy Hands of his Honor and Holiness the Admo"r Shlit"a at the Rally on the 2nd day of Rosh Chodesh Elul which is the 1st day of Elul, 5746. After the Mincha Prayer and after the three Sichos for the boys and girls who came back from their summer camps to 770. The Rebbi Shlit"a gave to all rthe men and women counselors and in the merit of the children to the the "Tankistim" to hand out to all the men."
