The Lubavitcher Rebbe was accustomed to giving out coins to his Chassidim either on his way to Daven Shacharit at 770, on the way to the Mikveh in the morning, after the Shacharit Prayers when the Rebbe would be on his way to visit the Ohel.

There would be other occasions where the rebbe would give out coins for charity such as, rallies that the were held for children, for older people , for Shluchim and other various Lubavitch organizational rallies which would be held at 770.

These rallies would be attended by the Lubavitcher Rebbe where he would give sermons and inspiration as well as give out coins to be placed into Tzedakah.

This coin was received by R’ Chaim Tzvi Konikov from the Lubavitcher Rebbe on one of these occasions, as he writes on the paper he folded the coin into:

"I Received this Nickel from the Holy Hands of his Honor and Holiness the Admo"r Shlit"a while on his way to 770 on the first day of the week at 10:30am, on the 24th of Tevet, 5746, to be placed into Tzedakah "

Provenance: R’ Chaim Tzvi Konikov.
