Important introduction for the historic documentation and research on the Gr"a and the ascent of the Perushim
Safed, Yisrael Bak Press. 1836, first edition.
One of the first seven seforim printed by Bak in the Land of Israel (in Safed). The sefer’s printing was delayed at the press due to the rampaging riots in Safed in 1834. (In Av of 1834, there were several printed compilations already in the possession of the Chata"m Sofer). In his introduction, Rabbi Yisrael of Shklov describes these events including the destruction of the press by the rebels. Comparison of the letters reveals that the first 5 leaves and from leaf 94 onward were printed after the destruction. The rest of the leaves were printed previously.
