Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ullman (1874–1915), son of Rabbi Yisrael Ullman (himself the son of the renowned Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ullman, Av Beit Din of Makova and author of Yeriot Shlomo), served for 20 years as the head of the community in Grosswardein (Oradea). Following the passing of his father, Rabbi Yisrael, in 1899, the young Rabbi Shlomo Zalman succeeded him as head of the community of Grosswardein, a position he held for approximately 18 years. Rabbi Shlomo Zalman was an outstanding Torah scholar and, together with his brother Rabbi Yaakov Asher Ullman (1881–1908), published their grandfather’s sefer She’elot U’Teshuvot Yeriot Shlomo (Vilna, 1905), including Bnei Yisrael, which consisted of novellae and notes from the two brothers, who served as the editors.
These letters were sent to Rabbi Mordechai Luria in Jerusalem.
