A magnificent silver tureen, Italian made, used for serving soups or stews with highly ornate decorations featuring intricate engraved patterns throughout the body and lid of the piece. Decorating the surface are diamond-shaped mesh patterns, bordered by shield-like motifs and tassel elements. The tureen has two handles, each designed with elaborate scrollwork, adding to its sophisticated appearance.
Harmoniously designed cover is bordered by shell and foliate scrolled embellishments. A detailed floral finial is topped at center sprouting from a realistic bed of foliage serving as its decorative knob.
The entire piece sits on a rounded pedestal base similarly designed, giving it a solid and stately feel. This type of piece is used in formal dining settings, and its intricate craftsmanship suggests it was made for a wealthy household, or for ceremonial purposes.
