The spice container takes the spherical form of a decorative pomegranate with an intricately pierced removeable lid topped by a foliate shaped knob used for inserting and smelling spices. Mounted on a naturalistic stem, adorned with a curved vine and leaf motifs, which extends into the center of the circular base featuring chased acanthus leaf flowing designs.

Wonderfully fashioned and detailed, this silver spice container was crafted by Luigi Pagliari in Rome around 1830. The spice container embodies a distinctive blend of Italian craftsmanship and the stylistic influences of early 19th-century silversmithing. Luigi Pagliari, known for detailed silverworks, produced pieces that reflect a combination of functional elegance and artistic detail, intended for ceremonial use.
