[Baranovich, 1930].

Letter by the Holy Admori”m the Beis Avraham of Slonim, on behalf of

The Holy Admo"r Rabbi Avraham Weinberg (the second) [1884-1933], was the Admo"r of Slonim in Baranovich, third generation in the dynasty of Admo"rs of Slonim. He is known by the name of his bookÖ² as "the Beis Avraham." He was born several months after the passing of his paternal grandfather, Rabbi Avraham Weinberg (I), author of Yesod HaAvodah, founder of Slonim Chassidus, and was named after him. His father was the Admo"r Mahara"sh, who served as the second Admo"r of Slonim Chassidut. In 1901, Rabbi Avraham married the daughter of the Admo"r of Lomz-Kotzk, grandson of Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kotzk. With his appointment as the Admo"r, he was also appointed Nasi Kollel Rizine, and was very active on behalf of the Chassidic settlement in the Land of Israel. His Chassidim in the Land included Rabbi Moshe Clears, rabbi of Tiberias, Rabbi Mordechai Chaim Slonim (later leader of Slonim Chassidut), Rabbi Asher Ze’ev Werner and many more. His book Beit Avraham is known for its depth of Chassidic thought, and the Beis Avraham Slonim yeshivah in Jerusalem is named after him.

The Torat Chesed Yeshiva was a large and small yeshiva as well as a Kollel for married students associated with Slonim Chasidism, which operated in Baranovich.

The core group that formed the yeshiva was established in 1914 by the Holy Rabbi Shmuel Weinberg, the second Rebbe of Slonim. After his passing, it was reestablished and led by his sons, Rabbi Avraham Weinberg, the "Beit Avraham, " and Rabbi Yissachar Leib. After the passing of the "Beit Avraham, " it was led by his son, Rabbi Shlomo David Yehoshua.

The spiritual director and leader was Rabbi Moshe Midner, with Rabbi Ze’ev Meir Sheinberg, the Chasidic rabbi of Baranovich, serving as head of the group, and Rabbi Mordechai Yosef Mordkowski ("the Gaon of Meitchet") and Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Hirschowitz as heads of the yeshiva.

The yeshiva operated with an innovative combination of intensive analytical study in the style of the Lithuanian yeshivas, following the approach of Rabbi Chaim of Brisk and his disciples, along with training in the service of God through Chasidic practice, including focus on prayer, foundational beliefs, sanctity, and caution against heretical ideas and reading non-religious books. In this context, the yeshiva’s leader, Rabbi Moshe Midner, expressed that "we need supervisors to monitor the students in how they eat and how they sleep at night."

In 1942, during World War II, which disrupted the connection between the Chasidim and their Rebbe, Rabbi Shlomo David Yehoshua, who was then residing in Baranovich, Rabbi Shalom Noach Berezovsky, an alumnus of the yeshiva, established the "Beit Avraham" Yeshiva in Jerusalem inspired by the original yeshiva. Rabbi Avraham, his father-in-law, presided over the yeshiva. Later, with the split within the Chasidic community, Rabbi Avraham Weinberg, the current Rebbe of Slonim, established the Be’er Avraham Yeshiva in 1984, continuing the legacy of the Baranovich yeshiva.
