The holy Rebbi Yaakov Aryeh Guterman of Radzymin (1792–1874), in his youth, became a disciple of the Seer of Lublin, who placed him among his greatest students and testified that he possessed an exceedingly lofty soul. He was also a beloved student of the Maggid of Kozhnitz but was especially attached to the court of Przysucha, where he studied under the "Holy Jew" and Rabbi Bunim of Przysucha. He was considered one of their greatest disciples, alongside his peers: the Seraph of Kotzk, Rebbi Yitzchak of Vorka, and the Chiddushei HaRim. After the passing of Rebbi Yitzchak of Vorka, he was appointed as a Rebbe to thousands of Chassidim and became renowned as a holy man and a miracle worker. Under his leadership, Radzymin became one of the central Chassidic hubs in Poland, with tens of thousands flocking to receive blessings from him and to be delivered from their troubles. It is well known that all the Rebbes of the Przysucha dynasty would send Chassidim who needed salvation to him.
His handwritten manuscript is known as a segulah for protection. It is told that the Imrei Emes of Gur gave his son, the Lev Simcha (who was a son-in-law of the Radzymin dynasty), a manuscript of the Rebbe of Radzymin as a segulah for protection. During the hurried escape from Poland in 1940, the Lev Simcha lost the manuscript and was deeply saddened by this. However, when he later managed to obtain another manuscript of the Rebbe of Radzymin, he rejoiced greatly. On that occasion, the Lev Simcha noted that it was extremely rare to hear his father, the Imrei Emes, refer to something as a segulah or as a means of protection, which only highlights how important this manuscript was in his eyes.
