Likutey Halakhot is one of the unique works in Breslov teachings, where Rebbi Nathan of Breslov provides a Hasidic and Kabbalistic interpretation, along with practical guidance for serving God, according to the order of the sections and paragraphs of the Shulchan Aruch, following the special path of his Rebbe, Rebbi Nachman of Breslov. Rebbi Nathan remarked about these works that during their composition and writing, he felt a "divine illumination." Even Rabbi Nachman Chazan of Tulchin (the editor of these seforim) reported about his father: "That several times, due to his deep feelings and the divine illumination that shone upon him, he was forced to put down the quill from his hand and completely stop writing."
The author, Rebbi Nathan Sternhartz of Nemirov, known as Moharnat of Breslov (1780-1844), was the foremost disciple and disseminator of the teachings of Rebbi Nachman of Breslov, and the leader of the Breslov Hasidim after his Rebbe’s passing. He embodied the quintessential figure of a "disciple, " much like Rabbi Chaim Vital, who disseminated and revealed the teachings of his Rebbe, the Arizal. Similarly, Rabbi Nathan was the one who revealed and spread his Rebbe’s teachings to the world. He edited and published his Rebbe’s works (including Likutey Moharan, Sefer HaMiddot, Sippurey Ma’asiyot, and others). It is told that Rebbi Nachman said that without Rebbi Nathan, not even one page of his seforim would have remained. His writings expand and elucidate the teachings of his Rebbe, Moharan. His primary work is the present sefer, Likutey Halakhot. Rabbi Nathan was known from his youth as an outstanding scholar, a devoted servant of God with great fervor. His prayers and sanctity were renowned among the Jewish people. His life story is detailed extensively in the seforim Chayei Moharnat and BaEsh U’Vamayim – The Life of Moharnat, Jerusalem, 1996.
