A most fascinating letter in English by the Rebbe.
Tammuz, 5743.
”…About your daughter & her interest in a certain person. Inasmuch as I have never met the person and do not know him, i have no opinion in the matter.
As for the question of drugs, you sure know that the Shulcan Aruch is quite explicit about the prohibition of using anything that is harmful on’s health. Of course, there are drugs which physicians sometimes prescribe for their patients , but then it is a medical matter.
There is surely no need to elaborate on something that is quite simple and basic. But if you need additional information in regard to the Halacha, you should consult a competent orthodox rabbi.
Signed by the Rebbe in Englsh.
P.S. You mention in your letter that a certain person, while not having received any written response, claims to have received ”simonim” (signs, or hints) which are supposed to prove to him that he is on the right path. I can only tell you that is is not my way to send signals, and when i express an opinion it is given in plain and clear language, and not in signs of any kind”.
