On the title page, the holy signature of Rebbi Yehoshua Halberstam of Dolyna in Hebrew and Latin characters.
The Holy Rebbi Yehoshua Halberstam [circa 1878–1943], son of Rebbi Moshe of Bardiyov, grandson of Rebbi Baruch of Gorlice, and great-grandson of Rebbi Chaim Halberstam, the author of Divrei Chaim. He was the son-in-law of the holy Rebbi Yehuda Tzvi Eichenstein of Ziditshov-Dolyna, and upon his father-in-law’s passing in 1909, he assumed his position as Rebbe and Rabbi. During World War I, he fled to the town of Holmin, and in 1922, he returned to Dolyna.
He was martyred for the sanctification of God’s name by the Nazis Hy”d. According to one version from witnesses, the Nazis sentenced him to be hanged in the town square. As he stood on the gallows, he requested permission to recite the prayer Nishmat Kol Chai. After receiving their permission, he wrapped himself in his tallit and recited Nishmat in the traditional Ziditshov melody, pouring out his soul. Upon finishing, he turned to the executioner and said, "Well, well!…"
