The renowned physician and Gaon Rabbi Yisrael Zalman Alexandrovsky [1822-1887] was one of the most proficient of his generation in the laws of ritual slaughter. Rabbinic leaders of the generation such as Rabbi Mordechai of Oshmina, the gaon Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik of Brisk and Rebbe Meir Yechiel of Ostrovtza rushed their uncertainties in this field to him, and he wrote his halachic responsa to them. These became well-known, and the halachah was established accordingly.
