Rabbi Moshe Chaim Ephraim Bloch was born in 1881 in Galicia. In his youth, he was ordained as a rabbi and emigrated to Vienna. During World War I, he served as a military rabbi in the Austro-Hungarian Army. After the war, he returned to Vienna and began publishing his own books, focusing on translation, adaptation, and editing of Jewish stories. With the Nazi invasion, Bloch emigrated to the United States, where he remained until his death. He left behind a rich archive of correspondence with prominent scholars. He passed away in 1973. Some claim that at least three of Bloch’s notable works are actually forgeries: The Story of the Golem of Prague, a collection of letters from the Baal Shem Tov, and "Dovav Siftei Yeshenim."
