Sefer Yeshu’ot Meshicho – an assay of the Messaih, reply and polemic against the claims of the Christians.
[Sudilkov, 1828]. First edition. The actual place and date of printing have been concealed – due to the book’s content it could not be printed openly in Russia.
Numerous opinions have been expressed regarding the place of print: Karlsruhe, Tarnopol, Ostraha. See a description of the sefer in the Mif’al Ha-Bibliografia CD, listing 106686. Haim Lieberman, in his work Ohel Rachel, C, NY, 1984, pages 536-540 determines that it was printed in Sudilkov. Winograd, Ostraha no. 176.
Most bibliographers did not record this edition. First, BJ, p. 15, records a second edition: Sdełków lacking year Similarly, Ben-Yaakov, Otzar HaSfarim, p. 232, no. 465: Lacking year & printing place (Sudilkov). They likely refer to the present edition . C.D. Friedberg, Bet Eked Sefarim, p. 449, no. 1061, records a first edition: Tarnopol 1812; second edition: [Ostrog] 1828, with the note: from two editions. There are copies with the title page HMO"D. The printing year likely came from calculating the words "Meshiach Tzidkecha" [1812]. In his book, The History of Hebrew Printing in Poland, Tel Aviv 1950, p. 148, P. states that this is the first sefer printed in Tarnopol "after 1812" at the press of the partners Nachman Piness and Yaakov Auerbach. A.M. Habermann, Leaves of Bibliography and History of Israel, II, p. 27, no. 4, records: Tarnopol 1813?
