Paneled pointer tapers downwards, with rings of filigree encircling the top and middle of the pointer, with dual ringed ruffled cuffs at center and at wrist of the pointed hand . A crowned designed top and beautiful foliage scrolling on main stem complete the design. The Torah Pointer features an elegant silver chain affixed to the top, making for easy holding.

Top panels of pointer feature the dedication in Hebrew and English:

"Presented by B. Philips, Dov son of Binyamin, and members of the South Side Synagogue in Glasgow 5647, 1887".

Because the Jewish communities in Scotland were so small in number, antique Judaica from this country very rarely comes to market. The fact that the English and Hebrew engraved dedications specifically give a location and year makes this a remarkable offering that we are proud to present.

Marked J.K. Sterling near base of pointer. Probably made by a rare local Scottish silversmith. Chain is apparently unmarked.

2.5ozt.

24 Cm. L., (Pointer)

37.5 Cm. L., (Chain)

R. Dov-Bernet Phillips immigrated from Poland to Glasgow circa 1872. He died there in 1903.

Good - Fair condition, some dents, one panel of foliage scrolling is slightly separated from edge, slightly bent at main stem.
