Among the most well-known and important halachic works. The commentary was eventually printed in all the major editions of Sh"as and remains the primary commentary on the Ro"sh.

Magnificent copperplate architectural title page – with a picture of a bird at the top (צפור) like the name of the author’s wife, Feigaleh Tzipporah. The author writes about his turbulent life on page 148b.

Nice ownership inscription of the woman Kila Charag signed by Rabbi Michoel Eliezer Kohn from Mizlop (Miroslav, Mißlitz,   Misslitz) who lives now at her house in Prossnitz in 1829.

The Gaon Rabbi Michoel Eliezer (Michael Lazar) Kohn was born in Miroslav in 1811. A disciple of the Gaon Rabbi Yehuda Leib Freund in Pohrlitz, the Gaon Rabbi Moses Wanefried in Prossnitz (Prostějov) & the Gaon Rabbi Nachum Trebitch in Nikolsburg.


1n 1837 he was ordained by his Rebbe Nachum Trebitch. After his wedding he lived in Eibenschutz. From 1841 he served as Rabbi of Piesling (Písečné) & the communities in it’s environs Police (Pullitz), Jamnitz (Jemnice), Markvarec, Wölking (Dolní Bolíkov), & Wolschan (Olsany. In 1869-1873 he was substitute Rabbi of Schaffa (Safov).


He was secretary to Sir Moses Montefiore. Passed away in 1893.



Overall Very Good condition, thick quality pages, some stains, two repaired marginal tears to title page, new later binding.
