Rabbi Shmuel ben Rabbi Yosef Josefow Hacohen Schotten (1644-1719) the grandfather of Maran the Chasam Sofer who treated him with sacred reverence. His renowned grandchildren also included the Levin family of Cohanim from Poland, headed by the holy Rav Rabbi Chanoch Henich Hacohen of Alexander. Was one of the greatest rabbis of Ashkenaz in his generation, Rav and head of the Beis Midrash (the Kloiz) in Frankfurt am Main and the Rav of the Grand Duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt in west Germany. Author of Sefer ‘Kos HaYeshu’os’ on Seder Nezikin. His glosses on tractates Nedarim, Nazir and Bava Batra were printed in the Frankfurt (1720-1722) edition of the Shas. His innovations on other tractates were not published.


Overall Great condition. thick pages, stains, title page and first page have lower and side margin page repairs not affecting text, original binding has damaged corners, edges and tape repaired spine , front cover partially detached.
