The Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Yitzchak Hillman (1868-1953), was born in Kovno, Lithuania and received Semicha from the ADERES, R. Refoel Shapiro, R. Meir Simcha, and the RIDVAZ. In 1897, he was appointed Rabbi of Barzin. In 1908, he was appointed as Rabbi in Glasgow Scotland, where he founded a Beis Din. In 1914, he was appointed as a Dayan in the London Beis Din. In 1934, he settled in Yerusholayim where he co-founded Yeshivas Ohel Torah together with his son-in-law Rabbi Yitzchok Eisek HaLevy Herzog, where many outstanding Talmidei Chachomim studied.

The recipient Pinchas Grayevsky [1873-1941], was an author, historian and documenter of Jewish life in Jerusalem. He was educated in the Etz Chaim yeshivah. His father, Rabbi Tzvi, was from an early rabbinic family that ascended to the Land of Israel. He served as a dayan and rabbinic instructor in Slonim. He was a close associate of Rabbi Shmuel Salant, rabbi of Jerusalem. In 1893, he acceded to the request of Rabbi Shmuel of Salant, to become assistant to Rabbi Yechiel Michel Pines in the administration of the Bikkur Cholim hospital.
