He was a smart scholar, the Fez community appointed him to oversee their Shecita as he was well versed in laws of Treifa. He died in 1835.
A number of authors composed a treatise called "Be’er Heitev", on the Shulcan Aruch – which contains a summary of the sayings and rulings of the topics of the Shulchan Aruch commentaries. The first was Rabbi Yeshaya a grandson of the Ta”z , who composed a treatise with the same name on Orach Chaim (Amsterdam, 1708). The second was Rabbi Yehuda Ashkenazi of Tiktyn who composed on three parts of the Shulchan Aruch. The third author is Rabbi Moshe Frankfurt the Dayan from Amsterdam, who completed the treatise on the Choshan Mishpat part, and made additions to the Yore De’ah part of Hilchot Semachot. The fourth author was Rabbi Zechariah Mendel of Belz, whose treatise on Yoreh Dea was later re-edited in the combination of Rabbi Yehuda Tiktin’s "Ba’er Hatif" and is the commentary found in most copies of the Shulchan Aruch nowadays. His treatise on Choshan Mishpat also largely displaced Rabbi Moshe Frankfurt’s treatise, and it is found in the Seforim of the Shulchan Aruch nowadays. The fifth was Rabbi Moshe of Zolkow who authored "Be’er Heitev" on Yoreh Dea.
