A the beginning of the letter R.Yaakov Yosef Landau of Kalisz, Poland tells of his aunt who is required to receive Chalitzah from her late husbands brother , who they heard lives in Budapest.
Afterwards on the third side the city’s Rabbi Shimshon Orenstein also adds his plea to do what’s possible so she don’t stay an Agunah.
On the last side is a draft of Rabbi Reich’s response to this Parsha in his Holy hand.
The Gaon Rabbi Shimshon Orenstein Abd Kalish was born in Kempno on the border of Poland and was one of the students of Rabbi Yaakov Simcha Rehfisch Rabbi of Kempno author of Sha’arei Simcha. He serves as Rabbi of Krashnavits, Ozarkov and from 1886 in Kalisz, Poland.He died in 1903. His Son-in-law was Rabbi Nachum Ash Abd CzÄ™stochowa.
His student Rabbi Mordechai Weitz wrote: Once he was speaking in praise of the Gaon Raabi Akiva Eger and in the process he began to cry and related that when he studied as a child in his hometown of Kampna with Rabbi Yaakov Simcha Rehfisch. Once R. Akive Eger came to visit and when he saw His students are all big in stature and he Samson, one small among them, asked what it is, Rabbi Yaakov Simcha said, please examine this little one. And R. Akiva took him between his knees & tested him, after the test he said this little one will be one of the greats of Poland.
Rabbi Yaakov Kopel Reich, the Av Beis Din of Budapest (1832-1929) was one of the prominent leaders of Hungarian Jewry in his generation and headed the Jewish institutions during that period. He was one of the favorite students of the Ksav Sofer. Rabbi Kopel served as Av Beis Din of Verbova from 1872, and became Av Beis Din in Budapest in 1890.
