Printed near his passing in 1906. With the inscription "Portrait of Rabbi HaGaon HaGadol Tsadik Yesod Olam Moreinu David Friedman Av Beth Din of Tzelem passed away on the first day of Adar 1906."
The famous Gaon Rabbi David Friedman (1850 – 1905) was a disciple of the Ksav Sofer and Rabbi Menachem Katz Prostitz, who later became his father-in-law. He served as Av Beis Din of Tzelem (Deutschkreutz) and succeeded his father-in-law’s position in the rabbinate following his passing in 1890. He died suddenly while giving a Shiur in his Yeshiva.
He was the father-in-law of the Gaon Rabbi Mordechai Rothenberg, Av Beis Din of Antwerp, and the Gaon Rabbi Yissachar Shlomo Teichtal.
