The Holy Rebbi Meir Yosef of Kerestir (1878-1944), son of the Holy Rebbi Baruch of Brizdovitz, grandson of the righteous sages of Koznitz, Lizhensk, Ohr LaShemayim, Ropshitz, Linsk, Ziditchoiv, Komarno and many more. A disciple of the holy Gaon of Mad author of the ‘Levushei Mordechai’. He married the righteous Rebbetzin Rivka Tzirel daughter of the Holy Rebbi Avraham son and successor of the Holy wonder worker Rebbi Yeshaye’le of Kerestir. For 6 years he lived with his father-in-law the Holy Rav Rabbi Yeshaye’le and basked in his warm righteousness and holiness and who showed him much affectation.

Before the passing of Rabbi Yeshaye’le, he saw by Ruach HaKodesh that his son Rebbi Avraham’le will not merit to be Rebbi for to long, he therefore gave much attention to his beloved grandson who will eventually succeed him and continue in his holy ways.

Many relate how people who were in need of a salvation, saw the holy Rebbi Yeshaye’le of Kerestir in a dream telling them to go to his successor – his grandson and from there will come their relief. It is also told about elderly Chassidim who came to pray at the holy grave-site and while falling asleep there Rebbi Yeshaye’le appeared to them in a dream saying your are searching up here, descend and go to my grandson, there you will be helped.

He toiled in Torah all his days, he loved every Jew immensely, following in his fathers-in-law’s and grandfather’s footsteps by welcoming guests with exceptional kindness. He continued on a high level inspiring an abundance of holiness, blessings and wealth upon the Jewish people who flocked to him from all the surroundings. Great sages of his generation and especially the Holy Rebbi Sholom Eliezer of Ratzfert, the Holy ‘Ohr Malei’ of Koson and the Holy Rebbi Elimelech of Tosh admired him and gave him much respect and honor. Many wonders are told and linked to his holiness.

The Gabbai Harav Elimelech Fishman H”yd (1881-1944) was a disciple of the Kedushas Yom Tov and Arugas Habosem. He fled his native town during World War One and found refuge in Irshava where he was appointed gabbai to the famed Admor Harav Yoel of Satmar with whom he learned regularly. When the position of gabbai to the Admor of Kerestir became available, the Satmar Rav advised his faithful gabbai to relocate to Kerestir and accept the appointment in the Holy Court of Kerestir. When Rav Elimelech entered the sanctum of Rabbi Yeshaya’le with his kvittel, the Rebbe perused the note, closed his eyes and appeared to doze momentarily before spontaneously crying out, “Ir vet bleiben bei mir! You shall stay with me!” Rabbi Elimelech Fishman was thus appointed gabbai and chazzan during the Yomim Nora’im in Kerestir.
