Sefer Menachem Zion, Chassidic articles on the Torah, which the Holy Rebbe Yechezkel Panet [Chief Rabbi of Transylvania, author of Mareh Yechezkel] heard from his teacher the Holy Rebbe Menachem Mendel of Rymanów.
Czernowitz [Chernivtsi], 1851. First edition.
The first Sefer by Rebbe Menachem Mendel of Rymanów that was printed.
In the preface, Rabbi Yechezkel Paneth writes that Rabbi Menachem Mendel delivered a sermon each Shabbat on Parashat HaMan for twenty-two years. Indeed, this book also contains many Torah thoughts regarding Parashat HaMan. It is known that through this he intended to impart livelihood to all Jews. The well-known segulah for livelihood, reciting Parashat HaMan on the Tuesday of the week the Torah portion Beshalach is read, is attributed to him. This Sefer is also known to be a segulah for livelihood. To this day, people from all over the world visit the gravesite of the Rymanów Rebbe to pray for livelihood.
Stated in the name of the Holy Rebbe Yitzchak Horowitz of Szczucin, is that "most of the Sefer Menachem Zion by the Rymanów Rebbe is about Parshat HaMan (the portion of the Torah about the Manna in the desert), because the Rebbe of Rymanów often prayed for the livelihood of the Jewish People". (HaChochmah Me’ayin, Bnei Brak 1996, p. 87).
The author, Rebbi Menachem Mendel of Rimanov, was a disciple of Rebbi Shmelke of Nikolsburg, one of the greatest disciples of Rebbi Elimelech of Lizensk. Following Rebbi Elimelech’s passing, Rebbi Menachem Mendel was one of the major disseminators of chassidut in Poland.
Rebbi Yechezkel Paneth was the Av Beis Din of Karlsburg, known by all as the holy Mareh Yechezkel. He became a close disciple of Rebbi Menachem Mendle of Rimanov and carefully recorded his holy novellae, which were eventually brought to print in this sefer. Rebbi Menachem Mendle himself did not author any sefarim, and were it not for the Mareh Yechezkel. His Torah would have likely been lost forever.
