Machzor for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Nusach Sfard, with a Hebrew and Yiddish commentary. Part 1.
Zhitomir, 1865. At the press of Harav Aryeh Leib Shapiro, grandson of Rebbi Moshe Shapira of Slavita – son of Rebbi Pinchas of Koritz zy”a.
"And we added parts which bnei Sfardim (Chassidim) very much need, ie. the Zohar before the blowing of the Shofar and also the ‘Seder Ha’avoda’ of Yom Kippur, which we printed in that part of the Machzor, that it shouldn’t be missing"
This a very significant Machzor, one of the first in Nusach Sefard. Years passed until “Nusach Sfard” became commonly used. Initially the majority kept to "Ashkenazi" Nusach, and only individuals allowed themselves to change, especially in wake of the Gaon and other sages’ great opposition. In all the Machzorim, the “seder ha’avoda” of the great Rabbi Klonimus "Amitz Koach" is still printed, which is in accordance to the ruling of the Ba’alei Tsafot.
The printing of "Ata Konanta” was therefore a major innovation, and this Machzor was pivotal in the spreading of Nusach Sfard in print and among the people.
