Jerusalem Circa 1880.

Rabbi Avraham Dov ben Rabbi Yisroel Mordechai Hacohen – a leading Rav and famed Gaon who lived in Lvov, Mohliv, and Safed. Was Rosh Av Beis Din of the Ashkenazic community of Cairo and then immigrated to Jerusalem. Author of Sefer Seder Hagett Biktzarah (1877), SEfer Sichos Rabbanei Hatalmud (1880) and Teshuvas Adach (1883). Passed away in 1922 and was laid to rest on the Mount of Olives.

The American consul in Jerusalem adds a letter in Arabic with his stamp.

Addressed to Rabbi Zalman Chaim ben Rabbi Avraham Binyomin Rivlin (1838-1902) the chief manager and examiner of the Etz Chaim Yeshiva of Jerusalem, the grandson of Rabbi Moshe Rivlin Maggid Meisharim and leader of the Ashkenazic community of Jerusalem and the brother of Yosef (Yosha) Rivlin, one of the builders of the neighborhoods of Jerusalem outside the walls. Rabbi Zalman Chaim’s first wife was the great-granddaughter of Ba’al HaTanya, Mrs. Rivkah Hinda, the daughter of Rabbi Moshe Zvi Pondminsky. After her passing, he married Mrs. Alte. Passed away in Sivan 1902.
