The book contains impressions of Moses Montefiore’s visit to Palestine in 1875 and the text of a long letter sent to him by rabbis Samuel Salant and Meyer Auerbach prior to his arrival in Jerusalem (the letter is printed in the Hebrew original and in English translation. The impressions are printed in English only).

On the English title page is a handwritten inscription: "To Mrs. Sarah Goldsmith of San Francisco Sir Moses Montefiore’s ", the words "Moses Montefiore’s" were handwritten by Montefiore.

A photograph of Montefiore by John Crow Twyman is mounted on the inside front Hebrew binding. The Montefiore coat of arms is printed on the inner front English cover.

Overall Great condition, very few stains, original binding rubbed at corners and spine.
