The Gabbai Harav Elimelech Fishman H”yd (1881-1944) was a disciple of the Kedushas Yom Tov and Arugas Habosem. He fled his native town during World War One and found refuge in Irshava where he was appointed gabbai to the famed Admor Harav Yoel of Satmar with whom he learned regularly. When the position of gabbai to the Admor of Kerestir became available, the Satmar Rav advised his faithful gabbai to relocate to Kerestir and accept the appointment in the Holy Court of Kerestir. When Rav Elimelech entered the sanctum of Rabbi Yeshaya’le with his kvittel, the Rebbe perused the note, closed his eyes and appeared to doze momentarily before spontaneously crying out, “Ir vet bleiben bei mir! You shall stay with me!” Rabbi Elimelech Fishman was thus appointed gabbai and chazzan during the Yomim Nora’im in Kerestir.10.5cm
