The author was a philanthropist and scholar, known as ‘The Saraf.’ The author passed away in 1831, and the sefer was published by his son with a lengthy introduction including the author’s life story. With many approbations, from Rabbi Yosef Shaul Nathansohn and the Admo"rs of Lublin.

Rabbi Yosef Shaul Nathansohn penned his approbation during Chol HaMoed, writing: Although I am not accustomed to write during these days, as it is Chol HaMoed, despite this, due to their intent to print immediately after the holiday, I said that because it is a mitzvah, it must not be delayed. The Admo"r, the author of Shefa Chaim of Sanz, commented that he was astonished that Rabbi Yosef Shaul, who was not counted among the Chassidim, gave an approbation to a Chassidic sefer on Chol HaMoed.
