The Kabbalist Shimshon ben Pesach from Ostropol was martyred at Polonnoye, Volhynia, during the Khmelnytsky Uprising. Referenced in this early cryptic Kabbalistic text are various unknown works, some attributed to R. Shimshon himself, of which no trace has ever been found.
