Responsa letter from Rabbi Avraham Yaakov HaLevi Horowitz dated 1938.
Regarding the use of a ice box & central heating on Shabbos.
Letters from him are very rare, especially such a long responsa!
4 sides. The opening 7 lines, the last 4 & signature, & the 5 lines added added afterwards are in his holy hand, with the rest being in the hand of a disciple.
Rabbi Avraham Yaakov HaLevi Horowitz (1864-1942) was a prominent leader of his generation, described by the Maharsham as a " world genius, " and by the Admor of Belz as a " mezuzah guarding Eastern Galicia."
People flocked from far and near with questions, to which he would respond promptly, and with great clarity, as though the topic were fresh on his mind. His novellae were published in Responsa Tzur Yaakov – two parts.
For a short time after R’ meir Shapiro’s death he was Rosh Yeshiva at the famous Yeshivas Chacmei Lublin. But when he realized he cannot answer all the Shailos flooding to him from all over as well as head the Yeshiva he left that post & returned to Probuzna.
He, his five daughters with their whole families perished in the holocaust Hy”d.

Rabbi Yoel Fink of Linsk-Liska. from the Zikney Chasidim of Chortkov. He was at the passing of the Admor Rabbi Dovid Moshe. He emigrated to the United States, where he served as a Rabbi in Yeshivas Torah Vdaas in Brooklyn New York.
