The Gaon Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Epstein was born in 1866.

He studied at the Volozhin Yeshiva.


One of the greatest heads of Lithuanian yeshivas, and one of the leaders of ultra-Orthodox Judaism. He was asked by the Alte from Salvodka’ to serve as head of the Knesset Yeshiva of Israel. He was an Av Beit Din in Slobodka and also active in the Council of Torah Scholars.

In 1924 he immigrated to Hebron with the yeshiva members and from 1929 he lived in Jerusalem until his death on the 10th of Kislev in 1934. He authored the book series L’Vush Mordechai.
