Manuscript note in the hand of Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Meizlish the Rabbi of the Bergen-Belsen camp written to Rabbi Shlomo Baumgarten who served as the Cheif Military Rabbi requesting his approval in order to arrange a wedding.

Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Meizlish [1902-1974] was a rabbi in Galicia and Hungary before the Holocaust. After the Holocaust, he was chief rabbi in the British Zone of Germany and Rabbi of the Kollel in Bergen-Belsen from 1945 to 1947. He immigrated to the United States and became a Rebbe in Chicago. Many Chassidim followed his court, he also was the Rosh Yeshiva for the students he saved from the Holocaust.

He wrote the Binyan Tzvi responsa which was printed before the Holocaust. He is well-known and became most famous for his book ‘Shu"t Mekadshei HaShem’ which deals with some truly horrific questions that arose during the Holocaust.

R. Shlomo Baumgarten (1904-1982), was a son of R. Yosef Baumgarten Dayan of the Schiff Shul in Vienna.  During the war he served as a Jewish Rabbinic Chaplain in the British army & was one of the first Rabbis to enter Bergen Belsen after the liberation.

After the war, he served as Rov of Khal Torah Eitz Chaim (69) in London where he was greatly revered.
