Rare postcard from Rabbi Avraham Yaakov HaLevi Horowitz dated 1941

In the letter he discusses with his friend Rabbi Yoel Fink details about getting a affidavit which was a lifeline in the holocaust.


Rabbi Avraham Yaakov HaLevi Horowitz (1864-1942) was a prominent leader of his generation, described by the Maharsham as a " world genius, " and by the Admor of Belz as a " mezuzah guarding Eastern Galicia."

People flocked from far and near with questions, to which he would respond promptly, and with great clarity, as though the topic were fresh on his mind. His novellae were published in Responsa Tzur Yaakov – two parts.

For a short time after R’ meir Shapiro’s death he was Rosh Yeshiva at the famous Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin. But when he realized he cannot answer all the Shailos flooding to him from all over as well as head the Yeshiva he left that post & returned to Probuzna.

He, his five daughters with their whole families perished in the holocaust Hy”d.
