By Oberkantor Zebulon Kwartin. The first compilation of his improvisations.
German and Yiddish introduction. Text underneath the musical score is in Hebrew using the Latin alphabet. 65 pieces.
Zanwel Kwartin is considered by many to be one of the greatest Chazzanim of all time, even gaining the nickname "Prince of the Omud", since no one could compare to him while he was at the bimah. Prior to moving to the U. S., Kwartin officiated in Vienna, St. Petersburg, and Budapest. His recordings were widely sought after and in 1919 after a successful US concert tour, he took up residence at Temple Emanuel in Brooklyn. While in Brooklyn both his reputation and the number of his phonograph recordings grew. He immigrated to Israel in 1926, returning to the USA eleven years later to officiate at a synagogue in New Jersey. Kwartin’s compositions combine the traditional mood of the prayers with beautiful melodies.
