The Gaon Rabbi Mordechai Leib Rubin (1871-1929), son of R. Yaakov Gershon Rabinowitz, studied at the Slabodka and Mir Yeshivot. In 1894, he immigrated to Eretz Israel and settled in Jerusalem, and from 1904 served as rabbi of the Ekron settlement (Mazkeret Batya) for a four-year tenure. In 1923, he headed the Jerusalem delegation at the first Knessia Gedola of Agudat Yisrael, which took place in Vienna. In 1924, he was appointed Raavad of Jerusalem on behalf of the Eda HaCharedit, alongside Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld.
