Cutting polemic composition against the Kabbalist Rabbi Natan Adler, teacher of the Chatam Sofer, and against his disciples. Composed by R’ Leib Vetzler.

Rabbi Nathan Adler (1741-1800) was a German Kabbalist and famously, the teacher of the Chasam Sofer. Based in Frankfurt, he was the subject of controversy due to his uncommon mystical behaviors and the development of a devoted following. Ultimately, things came to a head in 1789 when – partially due to the influence of this anonymous screed – the Rabbi was formally expelled from Frankfurt. See R. Elior, Rabbi Nathan Adler of Frankfurt and the Controversy Surrounding Him, in: Studia Judaica (13) esp. p. 226.
