Carved wooden Atzei Chaim from the late 18th century. Torah scroll included. Clad in a maroon hand sewn mantle and trussed with a wimpel.
Dedication on the Atzei Chaim read in hebrew "Zot Hatorah, Mitzvat Hashem Barah Shay Lemorah, Bshnat 5554 (1794) Lebriah" which is translated to " This is the Torah, the commandments of Hashem were made to be imparted (unto others), In the Year 5554 from the creation of the world"
The second Atzei Chaim has the Dedication of " Nidvat Hazaken Hanichbad Avraham ben Harav Gedaliah Sinigalia Yair Keor Hachama Layehudim Huysah Orah" which is translated to " This scroll and Atzei Chaim are a present from the man Avraham son of the Rav Gedaliah Sinigalia his light should be as bright as the sun, and to the Jewish people there should be great light- (success).
This is a special pair of Atzei Chaim with a dedication from the Sinigalia Family.
Abraham Sinigalia was born in 1738. He was one of the leaders of the Jewish community in Lugo, the treasurer of ‘Chevrat Gemach’ until his death in 1805.
The Sinigaglia family is one of the oldest Jewish families in Italy with roots of more than 400 years. The family is of Sephardic heritage.
Some lettering in scroll is faded. Atzei Chaim are a bit chipped.
