Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Ashkenazi-Frankel, son of Rabbi Meshulam Zalman Frankel-Ashkenazi Av Beit Din of Bucharest, a descendant of the Ba’al Shem Tov and of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berdychiv. From 1848, he served as Ra’avad of Bucharest and the Rabbi’s deputy. He retained this position during the years that the Malbim served in the Bucharest rabbinate, during 1858-1864. He immigrated to Safed in 1873.
