The famous Gaon Rabbi Meir Dan Raphael Plotzky (1867-1928) was renowned throughout the world for his sefer Klei Chemdah, which was embraced by the Torah community. He was a prominent Polish rabbi and did much to better the lives of Polish Jewry. He assisted in the establishment of Agudas Yisrael. He was a disciple of the Avnei Nezer and a follower of the Sfas Emes and the Imrei Emes.

He served as rabbi of Dvohrt (Warta) and Ostrów-Mozowiecka, and participated in the famous expedition of prominent rabbis who traveled to the US in 1924, together with the Devar Avraham Rabbi of Kovno, Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Epstein and Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Kook.

In 1923 the Gerer Rebbe asked Rabbi Meir Don to accompany the Chofetz Chaim from Radin to the first Knessiah Gedolah in Vienna. It was there, that he  was elected a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah.

As is known, Rabbi Meir Dan, who was very involved in the doctrine of the Yerushalmi, was at first very enthusiastic about the ‘historic discovery’ that was first revealed in 1906. It was only after several long months that he began to have misgivings, difficulties surfaced and arose in his mind which gradually accumulated, and in Adar 1908, he authored the book Sha’alu Shlom Yerushalayim. Even after writing it, it was not published until 1910, in order to confirm that he knew all the claims and was able to answer them properly.
