Letter from the Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leib Hakohen Pupko Rabbi of Radin, Son of the Chafetz Chaim, to the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzensky – Recommendation by Rabbi Chaim Ozer, 1935.
A letter from the Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leib Hakohen Pupko, Chief Rabbi of Radin, "To the great master, the pride of the Jewish people, the honorable Rabbi Chaim Ozer, may he live long." The letter is a recommendation for assistance with medical care and treatment in Vilna for the wife of his father, the Chafetz Chaim.
On the other side, Rabbi Chaim Ozer requests the Vaad HaYeshivas to "please read this letter, as it is fitting to diligently fulfill this request and allocate one hundred gold coins for this purpose, " Written & signed in his holy handwriting.
The Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leib Hakohen Pupko, Rabbi of Radin [1861-1939], was the eldest son and right-hand man of the Chafetz Chaim. In his youth, he studied under the Beit HaLevi of Brisk and also under Rabbi Yosef Zundel Hutner. After the passing of the Chafetz Chaim, he was appointed as his successor as Rabbi of Radin.
The letter is on the official stationery of Rabbi Aryeh Leib Hakohen Pupko, Chief Rabbi of Radin and President of the Chafetz Chaim Yeshiva in Radin following his father’s passing. Rabbi Aryeh Leib assisted his father in publishing the renowned work Mishnah Berurah, and large portions of the Mishnah Berurah were composed and written by him.
The famous Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzenski (1863-1940), son of Rabbi David Shlomo – Rabbi of Iwie and son-in-law of (I) Rabbi Eliyahu Eliezer Grodzenski of Vilna (son-in-law of Rabbi Yisrael Salanter) and (II) Rabbi Meir Atlas of Shavel. Appointed Rabbi in Vilna in 1885 and gradually became recognised as the principal rabbinical leader of Lithuanian Jewry and one of the greatest Torah personalities of the pre-WWII era.
