The Holy Gaon Rabbi Yissachar Ber Cohn, author of *Binat Yissachar* (1830 – 1923), was the Av Beit Din of Erdőszentgyörgy and head of its yeshiva. He was born to his father, Rabbi Yaakov, in the town of Hajdusamson. In his youth, he studied under the Menuhat Asher and the Tzeror HaChaim, as well as the esteemed Rabbi Yirmiyah Löw, Av Beit Din of Újhely. From 1852, he served as a dayan in Újhely alongside his teacher Rabbi Yirmiyah Löw, and from 1876, he was appointed as the Av Beit Din of Erdőszentgyörgy, where he also established a yeshiva for young men, turning the city into a major and renowned center of Torah learning. After World War I, he moved to Marosvásárhely., traveling and staying under the tutelage of Maran Rebbe Yeshoua of Belz, the Yitav Lev, and the Divrei Yechezkel of Shinova. He became known as a holy man who performed miracles and began accepting ‘kvittlach’ in the manner of Hasidic rebbes.
Stamp of his step-son, Rabbi Avraham Asher Zelig Stein, is also present. Rabbi Avraham Asher Zelig Stein was the son of the holy tzaddik Rabbi Moshe Stein, author of Be’er Moshe. He was raised by Rabbi Yissachar Ber Cohn, Av Beit Din of Erdőszentgyörgy, who was his stepfather. A disciple of the Ma’aglei Tzedek of Dej, he married the wealthy Yechiel Noch from Hordolyn-Nasod and moved there. He served as the rabbi of Sekely Udvarhely for about 50 years in the rabbinical district of his stepfather. He published his father’s sefer Be’er Moshe with an introduction by him.
