Responsa covering the four sections of the Shulchan Aruch, written by the great Rabbi Tzvi Ashkenazi, chief rabbi of Amsterdam. It contains 169 responsa addressing all four sections of Jewish law. This is one of the most important halachic works.
First edition, printed in Amsterdam, 1712, at the printing press of Shlomo Proops, during the author’s lifetime.

Rabbi Tzvi Ashkenazi was born on the 1st of Elul 1658 in the city of Trebitsch, Czechia. His father, the great Rabbi Yaakov, was the son-in-law of Rabbi Ephraim HaKohen, the chief rabbi of Óbuda (Budapest), author of Sha’ar Ephraim. Rabbi Tzvi studied with both his father and grandfather. He married the daughter of Rabbi Meshulam Zalman Mirelish, chief rabbi of Altona. After his marriage, he settled in Altona, where he established a yeshiva. In 1706, he was appointed as the rabbi of the Altona, Hamburg, Wandsbek communities. He later served as the rabbi of the Ashkenazi community in Amsterdam, where he published his responsa, Chacham Tzvi. In the winter of 1718, he moved to Lviv , where he served as the rabbi for several months until his passing on the 1st of Iyar, 1718. His famous son is the great Rabbi Yaakov Emden the Yavetz.
