The author: Rebbi Yitzchak Dovber Schneerson [1835-1910], the second Rebbe of the Lubavitcher-Liadi Chassidic dynasty.

Was born in the town of Lubavitch, to his father, Admor Chaim Shneur Zalman, the son of the Tzemach Tzedek Rebbe. He was the only son of his father. For years he had been in the shadow of the Tzemach Tzedek. After the demise of the Tzemach Tzedek, he moved with his father to the city of Ladi, where his father served as Rebbe.

At the age of forty-five he was appointed Rebbe in Ladi after his father’s death, and most of the Chassidim accepted his leadership, and some accepted the leadership of his brother-in-law, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Cytrysin. After the passing of his cousin, the Admor of Kapost, many of the Kappost followers were connected to him.
