The noted Gaon Harav Yitzchak Shmelkes, Av Beis Din of Lvov (1828-1906) was among the greatest Galician sages of his time and author of myriad responsa, many of which were recorded in this sefer Beis Yitzchak.
He was a disciple of the Sho’el U’Meishiv, but sparred with him in Torah. Years later, he was succeeded by the Maharsham as spiritual leader of Galician Jewry. The Beis Yitzchak was renowned for his phenomenal brilliance, diligent study and sharp mind, and it is said that he remained awake for one thousand nights in succession. His 6-volume comprehensive work Beis Yitzchak is regarded as one of the foremost anthologies of halachic responsa.
