Interesting Polemic letter regarding the practice of circumcising a child born to a non Jewish mother.
London & Cardiff, 1943.
Front side with a short & to the point letter by the Gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Abramsky
"I will update you kindly. I hereby inform you that a ruling has been issued from our court stating that it is forbidden to circumcise a son born to a Jew from a non-Jewish mother, and the mohalim in London refrain from circumcising him.
Blessings and best wishes".
Reverse side with the reply of the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Eliyahu Rogosnitzky ”
"Honorable Rabbi, may he live long!
Please accept back the ”ruling” that has come from your court, as I do not know what it is or what it pertains to. I do not need the directives of your court and find it intrusive. This is the second time you send it to me without my request. I have never seen or heard of such a strange conduct. Perhaps there is a misunderstanding or an error that can be repealed
With esteem and respect."
The Gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Abramsky [1886-1976] studied in his youth at the Novardok Yeshiva where he was close to the "Alter of Novardok" and at his request he even studied with his sons. At the age of 17 he was ordained by the city’s rabbi, Rabbi Yechiel Michel Epstein, author of Aruch Ha-Shulchan. He then studied at the Telz Yeshiva. He also studied at the Ramiles Yeshiva and in the "Kibbutz" of Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski in Vilna, and under Rabbi Chaim of Brisk.
