Letter dated 1855 sent by Rabbi Gedalia Tiktin, Rabbi of Breslau, to Sir Moses Montefiore regarding the distribution of £200 he had sent for distribution in Yerushalayim by the revered directors of the Warsaw Kollel, Rabbi Nachum of Shadik and his brother Rabbi Yaakov Yehuda.


He ends with regards to Rabbi Eliezer Halevi, Sir Moses’s secretary.


Bottom half is a English translation (in the hand of Sir Moses?) of the letter’s contents.

Fully in the hand & signature of the Gaon Rabbi Gedalia Tiktin (1808-1886), son of Rabbi Avraham Tiktin – Rabbi of Breslau and author of Pesach Habayis. Succeeded his father as Rabbi of Breslau and continued his battle against the Reform movement and its leaders.

Sir Moses Montefiore, great British philanthropist who devoted his life to improving the conditions of Jews around the world through his generosity and political intervention.
