Biblia Hebraica- Torah Nevi’im U’Kesuvim, the edition used by many Tzadikim to conduct the Goral HaGra.

The title page is illustrated with a copper engraving with illustrations of Moshe and Aaron and the Kodesh Ha’Kodashim, with two additional title pages in Hebrew and Latin script, an introduction in Latin and a poem in Hebrew titled “The eternal Torah which existed, before any creation was created.”

According to tradition, this edition was used by the Vilna Gaon when carrying out the “Goral HaGra”. In a tradition passed down from the Gaon, the goral is a Kabbalistic formula which can be used to inform certain circumstances and resolve dilemmas.According to tradition, this was the preferred edition by which to conduct the ‘Goral HaGra’, since it is printed in two columns with ‘Pesuchos and Stumos’.

It is related that it was used by Rabbi Chaim Volozhiner. More recently the Chofetz Chaim, Rabi Aaron Kotler and Rabbi Elya Lopian are said to have used it. In another famous instance it was used by Rabbi Aryeh Levin in 1950, in order to identify the bodies of the casualties of the “Convoy of 35” before burial.
